How can I have my name added to my employer’s license?
Your employer should file an Add/Drop form for qualifiers along with the current license certificate.
How can I get my name removed from my employer’s license?
Written request should be sent along with the current license certificate to be removed from an active license.

Search names using the online database or call the License Department at (919) 715-7604.
Is there any alternative to the required statement of bonding ability?
The Board will accept a letter from your financial institution verifying a line of credit in excess of $40,000.00 for Intermediate & in excess of $110,000.00 for Unlimited.

Current reciprocal agreements with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia & West Virginia
How can I apply for license with one of the reciprocal licensing states?
North Carolina licensees should call the licensing board (AL, FL, GA, LA, MS, OH, SC, TX, VA, WV) for the appropriate application packet.
How do I change my license from part-time to full-time?
Send written notification (via USPS, Fax, or email) to the Board's office. Be sure to include your license number.
How long does it take to receive my license?
License certificates are mailed within 5-10 business days of application approval.
How do I make my license inactive?
Send written notification to the Board. Licenses not renewed by the expiration date each year automatically become inactive.
If I incorporate my business, do I need to change the name on my license? What forms do I need to send in?
Any changes to your business name require your license be updated. Change forms are available online or call the License Department. If you are licensed in the Intermediate or Unlimited classification, a statement of bonding ability may also be required.
I passed the examination, but i’m not ready to start working. How long do I have to activate my license?
You are not required to activate a license because you passed the exam, however additional information may be required if more than 12 months elapse from your examination.
Do I have to take the exam if I have a license in another state?
A test may not be required if you are licensed in a reciprocal state. The Board reciprocates certain licenses from these states.
How can I upgrade my license?
If you're already qualified (passed test) in a higher classification, you should call the Board's office for needed forms.
How can I change the name on my license?
Forms are available online. Names can be checked using the online database or you can call the License Department.
How can I reactivate my expired license?
Licenses expired for 12 months or longer may be reactivated by filing application & verification of 1000 hrs employment or verification of 16 hours continuing education credit.
Do all persons with a firm have to be licensed?
No. Each place of business of a licensed firm must have at least one listed qualified individual regularly on active duty to supervise and direct all electrical work performed by the bona fide employees of the licensed firm.
Can a listed qualified individual serve on more than one license?
No listed qualified individual shall be indicated on more than one license certificate at the same time except where a place of business has one listed qualified individual with licenses issued in different classifications such as SP-PH and SP-WP.
